The Solution

Wi-Fi Design Before Construction

Mear Technology undertook a detailed desk-based wireless survey using TP-Link Omada Design Hub.

Architectural floor plans were imported into the planning platform and building materials were overlaid to model signal propagation throughout the property. This allowed accurate access point positioning to be designed before installation work commenced.

The design ensured complete guest coverage while minimising visible infrastructure.

Discreet Hospitality Wi-Fi

To preserve the aesthetic of the guest rooms, Mear Technology selected:

  • 21 × TP-Link EAP655-Wall Access Points
  • 1 × TP-Link EAP670 Access Point

The EAP655-Wall units were installed discreetly behind televisions within guest rooms, providing:

  • High-performance Wi-Fi 6 connectivity
  • Wired network ports for guests
  • Minimal visual impact
  • Enhanced room-by-room coverage

This approach delivered excellent wireless performance while keeping technology hidden from view.

Secure Guest Networking

Unlike traditional hotel Wi-Fi where all guests share a common network, Mear Technology designed a segmented architecture that gives each apartment:

  • Its own Wi-Fi SSID
  • Individual password
  • Dedicated VLAN

This allows guests to use devices such as:

  • Amazon Fire TV Sticks
  • Apple TV
  • Chromecast
  • Xbox and PlayStation consoles
  • Smart home and travel devices

The isolated design improves security while delivering a residential-style internet experience.

Enterprise Omada Network Infrastructure

The wireless solution is supported by a centrally managed TP-Link Omada infrastructure comprising:

  • 1 Omada Gateway
  • 5 Omada Managed Switches
  • 22 Omada Wi-Fi 6 Access Points

The entire environment is managed through Omada’s centralised platform, enabling monitoring, troubleshooting and configuration from a single pane of glass.

Resilient Connectivity

To ensure continuous internet access for guests, Mear Technology implemented a dual-WAN broadband solution consisting of:

  • 1Gb leased line
  • Starlink satellite internet failover

This approach provides business-grade performance together with continuity should the primary connection experience disruption.

Automated Guest Access

Mear Technology designed property’s access control system powered by Paxton Net2.

The solution was integrated with:

  • My Booking Portal
  • Cloudbeds PMS
  • Paxton Net2

This automation enables guests to receive access credentials automatically, removing the requirement for staffed reception and supporting a fully self-service guest journey.

Results

The completed solution delivers:

✅ Property-wide Wi-Fi 6 coverage
✅ Individual guest networks and VLAN isolation
✅ Automated self-check-in and room access
✅ High-speed resilient internet connectivity
✅ Hidden access point deployment
✅ Centralised cloud management
✅ Future-ready hospitality infrastructure

Customer Outcome

By combining hospitality technology, enterprise networking and intelligent automation, Mear Technology helped Stay Hush create a modern digital guest experience within one of Edinburgh’s most historic locations.

The success of the project further strengthened an ongoing partnership with the hospitality group and demonstrates how thoughtful technology design can enhance both operational efficiency and guest satisfaction.
